English Translation
I do everything for my family.
Why is “lo” necessary here? Why is “todo” by itself not enough to say “everything”?
My grammar book tells me that using lo with todo, when it’s the object, is common but not strictly necessary.

Would this sentence (without “lo”) then be correct too, or would there be a difference?
“Hago todo por mi familia.”
If you add “lo” to “todo”, would it be similar to this English sentence?
“I do it all for my family.”
And: Does adding/removing “lo” change the meaning of the sentence?
I imagine the following is something that Walter White from Breaking Bad would say:
“I do it all for my newborn baby. I cook meth and murder people so that she can go to college when I’m gone.”
Compared to this:
“I do everything for my newborn baby. I feed her, I bathe her, I change her diapers because she can do none of that herself.”
