“I don’t trust him […]” is a good translation, as far as I can see.

Another thing about this sentence: I think the subjunctive could be well used here, as in “lo que digas diga cuando él esté cerca”.

That would be grammatically correct, but it changes the sense of the sentence. I don’t see the sentence in english, so here are the two options:

  • as the sentence is currently (in spanish): I don’t trust him, be careful about he says when he is around. Also, here the “él” can be removed.
  • as you suggest: I don’t trust him, be careful about what you say when he is around.
    And here, I would suggest leaving the “él”, otherwise there is a bit of ambiguity on whether you are to be careful when he is around or when I am

I don’t trust him; be careful what you say when he’s around.

I messed up my suggestion, mixing tú with usted; I should have written “lo que [usted] diga”.

That reading never occurred to me. :slightly_smiling_face:
