Tom es muy buen bailarín.

English Translation

Tom is a very good dancer.

It should say, “Tom es un muy buen bailarín.” The rule is that, for professions, the indefinite article is included when there’s a modifying adjective. Now if only I knew why this is true!

Interesting - it’s actually the same rule in German, and I don’t know why:

Tom ist Tanzer = Tom is a dancer (note there’s no “ein” in German)

Tom ist ein sehr guter Tanzer = Tom is a very good dancer (now “ein” appears!)

I read this sentence as “he’s very good at dancing”, which doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s his profession. Likewise “No soy muy buen cantante”: “I’m not much of a singer”.

I’ll have to remember that rule!
