Penaos eo an amzer ? means “How is the weather?” but in the course it is translated as “How are you?” which is incorrect. On Tatoeba, it is translated correctly–the error is only in the course.

I think elders used to not salute themselves directly, but rather engage conversation on various subjects like “how are you cows today”, “are you happy with the way you milk your cows” or even for women “do you go to the fields Mary”, even though your name would be Jane!
“Penaos an amzer”, litteraly asks about the weather but could also be a way of saying hello in order to engage in conversation in more rural areas.
Maybe that could explain the translation given here …
