For some reason, some words are only accepted as correct if you use accents that are not even official elements of the Russian language but only intended to help with pronunciation. For example, “новички” is not accepted as a correct answer because the program expects “новички́”. This makes no sense and is an absolute pain in the backside.
What collection are you playing?
Thank you for your quick reply. I am playing “50,000 Most Common”.
Yep, I’ve experienced the same exact problem with >50 000 most common Russian words. The accents are written in Russian dictionaries, but they’re not a part of standard written Russian at all. On a sidenote, the bots have trouble distinguishing е and ё, and reads one as the other and vice versa quite often.
Yes I agree it is an absolute pain. When I meet this situation, I edit the sentence (via the pencil icon in the answer page) to add the unaccented word (e.g. новички) in the “Alternative answers (comma-separated list)” field. Thereafter the unaccented word is accepted, presumably for me only. Obviously it would be better for everybody if such issues were to be fixed globally.
новички́ and others like it should now be fixed. Any others please let us know, and thanks again for letting us know about this issue!
Awesome, thank you for your help. I can simply post any problems of this type here if that helps.
