In Chinese it is very distracting, because my eyes will always gravitate to read the transliteration rather than the characters, and it’s not doing anything to improve my character recognition. I always disable pinyin in other apps because it really interferes with learning for me.
A simple toggle would do, and maybe a “display transliteration” option that you can press if you really want to see it.
