“we are friends” is the given meaning. Do we really need the UNOS in there?

From what I understand, in Spanish indefinite articles can be used to identify that something/someone belongs to a group. Perhaps this is saying something along the lines of “we are a group of friends”? I hope someone with a better understanding of Spanish can help.

I would say the customary translation of unos is some, or a few, so in isolation this Spanish sentence sounds a bit off. However, consider this: “(Nosotros) somos unos amigos que queremos pasar un buen rato.”
