It looks like the English translation may have changed in the six months between your comment and my seeing it. Unless you mean that “Don’t call anyone an idiot” has a much different word order than the Spanish sentence. That’s true, but the meaning is the same, and sometimes two languages differ too much in their syntax to do anything about it.

Based on other sentences in the corpus, I believe you can also say “No le digas idiota a nadie”.

Definitely. In one of the Latin-American dubs of Return of the Jedi, Palpatine says to Luke, “Con el tiempo, llegarás a decirme ‘maestro.’”
I haven’t seen if there’s any significant difference between the two verbs in this context, it would be cool to know either way.
