Still kind of confused about this sentence - there seems to be no doubt about it involved. At least nothing in the english translation indicates it.

Another way to look at it is that there does not exist anybody (in the house) who knows that; someone who doesn’t exist cannot know anything, which calls for a contrasting sense: the subjunctive.

If you practise the pattern long enough, it will gradually feel natural, and using the indicative will sound strange.
