I think the usual pattern is “darse cuenta de algo”.

I have seen it as darse cuenta de… darse cuenta de que … and darse cuenta que (as above), but I have never been able to find a rule or figure out the difference. Maybe a native speaker could enlighten us?

We use all of them :slight_smile: . There is no difference between Darse cuenta que and Darse cuenta de que . But Darse cuenta de can only be followed with "eso, esto, aquello, etc.

Me di cuenta que no estaba lista.

Me di cuenta de que no estaba lista.

Me di cuenta de eso.

On a written exam, I think you would get a higher score using “de que”, though.
