Keyboard popup doesn't function properly anymore on mobile

Strange happening this evening. I was working on the “Avere e Essere” collection, in Portrait, and I was treated to the old version where the keyboard only popped up when clicking on the answer box. Felt very strange but good to see it again, like an old friend; just goes to show how quickly we can adapt. Moved on to “In a restaurant” and the new version popped back. Has anyone else come across this, I wonder?

What is the point of having this forum if the problem is not solved? It is all very disappointing, I have to cancel my subscription because I barely play it anymore. While I used to play over 300 sentences a day, I barely use it now (even less than 30 sentences which is the free version).
I used the app extensively for input, I am not interested in the multiple choice.
I liked how retro everything looked and worked. It prioritized functionality before, now it’s a total mess. Hopefully things can get more professional.

Bye for now

Fully understand how you feel, and concur. It was great as it was. I’m still here but with slightly less enthusiasm as I spend more time fiddling and scrolling, trying to fit everything in on my screen. Stay well!

Anybody mind if I have a brief beef!? I’m plodding on with Portrait mode but still find I’m clicking Submit by mistake, so need to concentrate as much on the green buttons as the language I’m learning. Also some of the Italian sentences need more scrolling to avoid them hiding behind my floating keyboard; I use the fk to fill in the huge gap between question and Send. Still here though, still learning but still hoping👍

Hang in there, I am also very much hoping that it will be fixed. Before, the split was maybe 65-35 between desktop and mobile. Now it’s more like 85-15. I really avoid using mobile, as you can see. And that’s too bad because CM was a great way to productively use 10 minutes here and there, while on the subway, for example. But now I think twice about doing it because it feels mentally draining, and I get (irrationally) enraged if I press the submit button by mistake.

Even with all that, there is no denying that CM has enhanced my French vocab tremendously, so I am not leaving. Let’s keep hoping!

Ciao, sempre c’è vita, c’è speranza! Where there is life, there is hope! I forgot to say, “irrational” caught my eye, so true, me too!

Talk about irrational annoyance (lol), twice recently going too fast and clicked on the wrong greenie, aagggh!

I played a lot these past few weeks. About 500 sentences a day. You would think I would get accustomed to where the buttons are… I still hit the wrong ones. The Submit/Next bars are so weirdly positioned, if only they would move the Next bar a little bit higher, at least where the X% mastered is. Plus you have to pay attention not to press the edges of the bar, only the center. The Explain bar is way too low and awkwardly positioned AND too small.

It’s a puzzling situation where an app so good could have these issues. Not to mention that it frequently crashes, that you type something but it is as if you do not type at all so you have to exit, that you have to constantly scroll to see what you are typing etc. etc. We all know the story of this thread. Btw, this has to be one of the longest threads of the app.

We complain in vain, our opinions are disregarded, I see that at least we don’t have two exit icons anymore. But, as we say in Romanian: Cu o floare nu se face primăvară. - One flower doesn’t make spring.

The last two years I had subscriptions for both Clozemaster and Duolingo and I made great progress. I wasn’t a fan of language apps before, I only had the curiosity to play them recently. They are amazing, and both apps helped me a lot in learning Swedish among other languages.
My subscription expires today but I will get back at some point, two years of about 50 new sentences per day is a great way to get fluent. The listening mode with the pictures and explanations was very helpful. It’s my favorite part of the course - Fast track 1-10 - and the one I need to finish.

These were my thoughts about this app, all the best to my fellow learners, if you have Duolingo feel free to add me (gabridae). I will focus mainly on Hungarian there.

FAREWELL (rant over, makes dramatic exit)

Somebody actually leaving Clozemaster for Duolingo ought to be a resounding wake-up call. Anyway, hope to see you back someday @GabriDae, and remember, the browser interface is actually a lot saner, with some differences in functionality though.

@GabriDae So very sorry to see you go, is there anything we can say to keep you?! I too share the same frustrations and long for the return of the Clozemaster that I loved from the very first word I typed. I join Morbrorper in wishing you well and hope to see you here again one day.

Thank you guys, you are very sweet!

Having made some progress in my target languages I decided to choose between Clozemaster and Duolingo for the next year of subscription. I was 90% sure that Clozemaster would be the winner, but we know what happened around August…
I don’t find it normal to constantly “@” at the team to get their atention only for them to disregard us. For them to think that everything is fine when it’s not. This forum isn’t even that big, they should be in touch with what people say about their app.

I was very close to pay for the Lifetime Subscription last year, I’m glad I didn’t. You get to pay for an experience that is denied to you. Yes, playing the app is tiring but I distance myself as a form of protest too. And at least the Duolingo answering bar is wide enough

I’ll get back in a year or so, maybe sooner if things get better around here (fingers crossed!). Speranța moare ultima (hope is the last one to die).

Thanks for all the feedback! None of it has been disregarded. We didn’t want to knee jerk react to “fix” the designs in the discussion above, and instead we tried to be sure we made improvements more deliberately, hence the delay in the latest updates.

We think the experience is notably improved in the latest release, with a hopefully simpler experience and fewer accidental taps, but we’re very open to feedback as always.

@GabriDae sorry we were slow and thank you for the feedback, push, and rant. We hope you’ll give us another chance in the future. In the meantime we’ll continue working to improve the app and help us all learn languages faster and more effectively.

A brief cheerful 2026 update on the pop-up problem! After a lengthy Samsung update towards the end of 2025, on both phone and tablet, everything is so much better now, no hitches, no hiccups, back to hastlefree learning;-) Perhaps @GabriDae could be tempted to come back now, if the update situation has helped them too :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed:?

Thinking about it
I’ve missed Clozemaster, regardless of how annoying it is sometimes…

Happy New Year to all!
