Is “stöta på” (in this context) slang? I found only the meaning “to stumble into someone” in the dictionary but not “to hit on someone”.
The difference lies in the intonation of the phrase: with stress on på the meaning is to stumble into, whereas with no stress on på, the meaning is the slangy one. In most cases, like in this one, the context tells you the meaning.
