Deberías dejar eso.

English Translation

You should stop that.

Why is it future?

I’m not sure what you mean by “future”. Deberías is the conditional conjugation of the verb deber. The future conjugation is deberás.

Sorry, I was unclear and you’re right. But isn’t conditional things like “I would”? Why isn’t the answer just “debes” which I interpret to mean “you should”. Doesn’t deberías mean something more future orientated?

No worries!

Conditional phrases can be used to sound more polite. Maybe think of deberías dejar eso along the lines of ``it would be best if you stopped that’’. The sentence is saying you should stop that, but in a nicer way.

This is compared to debes dejar eso which is more like ``you must stop that’’.
