I haven’t heard this idiom before, but from what I can get from the definition, it doesn’t make much sense in the context of this sentence, right? (I haven’t experienced it, but I’d wager its a bit difficult to feel anything once you have ‘kicked the bucket’) Since the sentence is speaking about sewing, a literal interpretation seems fine

I should have mentioned that the sentence belongs to the Spanish Idioms collection, so I wasn’t expecting a literal meaning.
