Can someone explain these options for mastered 100% words

I don’t understand these options. For example, if I select Normal after answering, how long until I see it again. Where do I set these? Are they related to the 25/50/75 interval options? Thanks

  • Use an always increasing next review interval with Hard/Normal/Easy buttons after answering to modify the rate of increase

  • Use Hard/Normal/Easy buttons after answering to set next review to 50/100/200% of 100% Mastered review interval setting

  • Always use 100% Mastered review interval setting

Ok, so I think I’ve understood some of it. I have these settings for my intervals.

0% 0
25% 1
50% 4
75% 10
100% 25

Then words that are 100% mastered can be customized using 3 options I mentioned above.

Always use 100% Mastered review interval setting So, I think this means I will see my mastered words every 25 days indefinitely.

Use Hard/Normal/Easy buttons after answering to set next review to 50/100/200% of 100% Mastered review interval setting I think this means that I would see the 100% mastered words either 12.5 / 25 / 50 days later depending on if I hit easy/normal/hard. But there is a maximum of 50 days. So I will still see every sentence every 50 days at a minimum.

Use an always increasing next review interval with Hard/Normal/Easy buttons after answering to modify the rate of increase Now this follows a similar pattern to the one above but it doesn’t specify what an “always increasing” interval is.

My question is, what does the interval start at where does it end?

Hi @_thomas and welcome to the forum.

For the first two options “Always use 100% Mastered” and “50%/100%/200%” they are as you describe.

For the “always increasing” option, I think that the easiest way to answer this is to refer you back to a discussion from a few years ago when the “always increasing” option was introduced.

The developer @mike posted the following explanation -

In that post he gave this example -

Here’s the change we’re considering: rather than 2x for the initial multiplier, we go with 1.5x, and we spread out Easy/Hard a bit such that the initial multiplier for Hard is 1.2x and Easy to 1.7x.

So for example if your default 100% Mastered is 180 days, the next review intervals would be 216 days for Hard, 270 for Normal, and 303 for Easy. Note that the multiplier for that sentence would change based on your response for the next time you answer that sentence, with 1.2x always being the minimum.

I hope this helps.
P.S. I don’t use the “always increasing” option so I can’t actually comment on whether it actually behaves like that in reality.

I tried it for some time, but not for the extended time required to see the effect of the gradual increase over the years. I did find it strange that the interval was increased even when I selected “hard”; that’s what finally put me off using it.

Thank you both for your help. I never thought it would be so difficult to get things as you like!

I find having my intial 25-100% quite low help me learn because I’m seeing them a lot over a short period of time as so I don’t have to stress about not getting things correct initially as I’ll see them again shortly.

I would like then that any reviews after I’ve mastered them aren’t tied to those intial values at all and increase substantially quicker so I don’t drown in reviews of words I’ve already ‘mastered’. But I guess everyone on here is trying to find their own balance.

I’ll stick with the “always increasing” option and see - I really want to avoid doing basically any manual intervention which is why I went with Clozemaster over Anki. Anyway, thanks again!

I think the word “hard” is a misnomer here. I think of it as “mastered but test me again a little earlier than the super-mastered clozes”. I use the “hard” button when it’s a sentence that seems a little unfamiliar, for example but the cloze word is still mastered, or if I need to think a little bit before giving the right answer for the cloze word. I know that I know the word but I am not as quick as with some other mastered words. If I find that the cloze word itself is a struggle for me (a true “hard”), I change the % mastered to 75% even if I eventually came up with the answer.

I like the “always increasing” option because otherwise the review feels too overwhelming for me with a lot of sentences/words that I don’t need to see often. Having said that, I don’t pay attention enough to know how the calculation works. I just trust that the calculation is being done as intended!
