Any new languages coming out soon?

Curious, are there any new languages being added to Clozemaster any time soon?

Going to bump this since it seems to have been lost.

Clozemaster’s databases are sourced from Tatoeba, so this is mostly a function of whether anybody is adding new content of decent quality over there. (Tatoeba is crowdsourced, so nothing is being added or compiled at predictable rates, or with any kind of overall balance of topics.)

What @alewifey said.

In addition to using Tatoeba as its source material, Clozemaster has started creating its own material. You’ll want to keep an eye on New Fast Track Tracker.

Not at the moment. We’re currently aiming on improving and adding more content to existing languages, New Fast Track Tracker like @davidculley mentioned, and experimenting with voting for other new collections, Vote for a new Spanish collection!.

I absolutely can appreciate the adding and improving of content in already existing languages- that important and valuable! But I do hope that eventually new languages will be considered in the future, even if it takes a few years to get to that point- because one of the big draws of Clozemaster is the fact that there are languages on here that I struggle to find in a lot of mainstream language learning sites and apps! (Examples: Amharic, Breton, Piedmontese and Nahuatl) It seems that a lot of apps ignore the rarer languages, so it’s great to find a site that actually provides some!

Good point! We’re experimenting with voting for new collections like I mentioned above. Maybe we’ll set up a vote for new languages too

We’d have to do some upfront research to make sure we can find translators/proofreaders, but could then make those languages available to vote on, and plan to create an “Everyday Essentials” collection for the winners - 1,000 sentences and phrases you’re likely to use in day-to-day life in that language.

What do you think? What languages/content are you most interested in?

I think Kabyle could be interesting. It’s one I’ve been wanting to work at for a while, that seems to be rarer to find on apps, and there are a lot of sentences for it on Tatoeba- not sure if that’s still a factor to consider though. ^^ I think a language vote someday would be wonderful!

I’m afraid that along with the new approach of offering custom sentences not sourced from Tatoeba, with AI illustrations and explanations, the effort of adding a new language pairing has risen considerably.

I think that there’s still room for the traditional model with only Tatoeba sentences, and no illustrations or explanations, for those language pairings where the effort of adding all the bells and whistles is deemed unprofitable. That is still preferable to not having anything.

My particular wish-list is:

  • Spanish from Finnish, Finnish from Spanish
  • Danish from Swedish, Swedish from Danish
