I remember the following scene from a science congress:
An Englishman is giving a lecture. Afterwards in question and answer time, an American rises and starts his question (appreciatively) with “Mighty pretty lecture you gave …” Indignant answer of the English: “Thank you so much for calling my lecture “mighty pretty” …”
Btw, if you want to have the same fun, just watch a German ordering a “Kaffee” in an Austrian coffee shop. It’s the same clash between German speakers.
