English Translation
We are working flat out.
English translation: “We are working flat out”
I was able to get the answer due to context clues, but I do not understand this English translation. Is this a saying in German?
When I’ve experienced “flat out” in English is it almost always “not all at/not even a little/ or outright”
“He flat out didnt help me”
Is the real translation for this not something like: “We are working under a high amount of pressure” or “We work under high pressure”?
Where I’m from (UK and Australia) “working flat out” means working as hard as possible without a chance to take a break, or as you suggest under high pressure.
In Australia if you are working so hard that you have no time to catch your breath then you are “flat out like a lizard drinking”
(the first time I heard that I didn’t know what it meant and thought that the person was saying that they were too tired to work because they were drunk!).
