Yes. I like your suggestion better.
Both translations are good, we’re in nitpicking territory here (I’m not saying that’s something bad, not in a language learning forum 
).
Nevertheless, I agree with you. Your translation is better at “reading what’s said between the lines” / “expressing that you understood that something was left unspoken”.
