Warte nur, bis dein Vater nach Hause kommt!

English Translation

Wait until your father gets home.

‘Just’ does necssarily soften the meaning in English.

‘Just wait until your father gets home’ can be a threat.

English Translation

Wait until your father gets home.

Just wanted to clarify if anyone learning German was wondering, it depends on the intonation, but without context this German sentence also sounds like a threat to me.
The usual scenario I think of when hearing/seeing this sentence without context would be the child did something bad at home and their mother is angry at them and she wants their father/her husband to punish him later when he comes home.

If it was a different context where the mother wants the child to just be patient until their father gets home, i would probably expect something like “Warte einfach, bis dein Vater nach Hause kommt!”
There might be a better German sentence to convey that, but this is what came to my mind first at the moment.

I’m not sure how to convey the difference best in English, though.
