“When did you go to bed last night?” this is the correct translation, the current one is garbage
It’s a common mistranslation. I hope it’s not in the new FFT.

Could “gestern” be replaced by any of the following then:
gestern Abend ?
gestern Nacht ?
letzte Nacht ?
If so, which one -including just “gestern” in the original translation- would you say is the most commonly used in Germany today?
Yes.
But just “gestern” is the shortest, and when asking about going to bed, it’s implied that you expect it to have been late, so no need to mention “Abend” or “Nacht”.

Right, that’s what I was thinking… I still asked because in French, it’s pretty common to hear people say:
“On s’est couché tard hier soir”, even though what you said above also applies.
