I’m not sure I understand this. Vetri means physical glass, the material - or panes of glass. It doesn’t seem to mean drinking glasses or sunglasses as is implied here?

You are right; I would have also expected “bicchieri” or “occhiali” here.
But as so often, the translation is very unlikely but not impossible.
It might be an architect talking about his client, e.g. a bishop planning new windows for his church.
Or:
Signor architetto, ha davvero preso un pappone come cliente?
Sì, e immagina, che voglia dei vetri rossi in tutta la facciata.
