Everything was better in the past.I’m not the best in grammar (in any language) but I thought you had to use ‘meglio’ instead of ‘migliore’ when used with a verb?
[edit]
Seems like DeepL agrees with me.
I’m in the same boat. I would also have put meglio. This actually reads “Everything was the best in the past”. Hmm!
Regards…
I think migliore is OK. It’s true that essere is a verb, but it works as a copula, so it’s naturally followed by an adjective. Contrast this with “Io dormivo meglio nel passato”. On the other hand, I don’t think meglio is wrong here, just more colloquial.
Disclaimer: I’m not a native speaker.
There is no error, grammatically, in saying “Tutto era migliore nel passato”. “Migliore” is an adjective, and in this case it is associated with a copula to “Tutto”.
I think however it is more natural, or more common, to say “meglio” in this case.
Thanks Mike-lima, I so often confuse the two, it’s good to know I quite often get it right:-)
