Traust du dich, ihn nach dem Unfall zu fragen?

Does this have a different connotation than asking “Wagst du…”? Or are they interchangeable? I.e. does using “wagen” connote more that the risk is external, whereas using “sich trauen” connote more that the risk is internal, involving your own reaction to the way the situation plays out? Or are they the same, or is there some other distinction?

You could use both. I like your description about the connotation because it’s correct and I really had to think a little bit about the cases when I would use those words.

Thanks much! I always love it when my impressions of connotation are correct, it gives me the sense that I’m actually learning something! =)
