Vraiment ! Est-ce que “exciter” en traduction est un faux ami avec “excited”. Plutot surement on aurait dire “Toute l’assistance etait impatiente/enthusiaste” ???
“excited” can sometimes be translated as “excit(é)e”, but the French sentence (as a whole) sounds weird to me here.
“Tout le public était excité” sounds better to me, but a bit weird still.
You have the right idea with “enthousiaste” and I think I would rather say something like:
(Tout) le public était enthousiaste / ravi.
