English Translation
Tom was talking.
Tom was talking/speaking = Ο Τομ μιλούσε ή Ο τομ μίλαγε
What’s the difference?
- Ο Τομ μιλούσε
This is the standard imperfect tense of μιλάω.
It’s what you’ll hear in most contexts: narration, conversation, writing.
It simply describes an ongoing past action — exactly like “was speaking.”
- Ο Τομ μίλαγε
Also imperfect, but in the colloquial / spoken variant.
Very common in everyday speech, especially in casual conversation.
Slightly more informal and regional in flavour, but still fully correct.
