As many men as came were caught.

This is an example of why transliteration into the Latin/English alphabet is a bad idea for Russian. The transcription is:

Vse, kto prishli, byli shvacheny.

This makes it look like the pronunciation of the last word starts with sh (as in shout). But actually the word starts with s (as in sail), followed by h (partway between English h and guttural kh). So the pronunciation takes something that is easily predicted anyway based on Russian spelling (namely, the sounds represented by the letters) and makes it confusing by using Latin/English characters. Far worse is that it DOESN’T show what is NOT easily predicted by the spelling, namely where the accents fall.
