他给我的工作作出了明确指示。 Tricky. We want the subject of the sentence to be 他 and not 工作 (because 工作 cannot give instructions). Hence, here 他给我的工作 cannot mean “he gives my work”, but it seems to be shorthand for “In relation to work, he gives me…”.
I’d be tempted to rephrase it 他对我的工作作出了明确指示 or 他给我明确的工作指示.
