事故る (Jikoru) is slang. The formal standard one is 事故に遭う (Jiko ni Au).
事故った (Jikotta) is a past tense version of 事故る. If you want to avoid slang and prefer a formal conversation style, you can alternatively say:
事故に遭ったのは半年前なのに、未だに首が痛みます。
