This is definitely a typo. 広める should be replaced with 広げる (ひろげる).

  • 広める means “to spread”.
  • 広げる means “to expand” or “to open up”.

For example:

トムはツイッター上でデマを広めた。= Tom spread fake news via Twitter.

トムはA社の事業を海外にまで広げた。= Tom expanded the business of Company A to international markets.

These are example sentences where 広める and 広げる are not interchangeable.

  • 広める is used when the number of receivers increased (i.e. horizontal penetration).
  • 広げる is used when the quality of something increased (i.e. vertical elevation).
