ふふふ、ごめんあそばせ。気になさらないで下さいな!

English Translation

Ha-ha-ha, pray forgive me. Please don’t worry yourself about that!

What form of speech / verb form is ごめん遊ばせ?

@ericaw
○○あそばせ is called あそばせ言葉. It used to be spoken by ladies in the upper class in Meiji and Taisho Eras (around the World War I). Attaching with a verb, ○○あそばせ functions as “would you please do”.

Other examples of あそばせ言葉 are ご覧あそばせ (= ご覧ください in the modern Japanese) and おいであそばせ (= おいでください or お越しください). The verbs in あそばせ言葉 are usually preceded by お or ご as a polite prefix.

Please keep in mind that males never use あそばせ言葉. Even females don’t usually use them unless intentionally chosen. They sound very old-fashioned and even a bit snobbish. You may still find あそばせ言葉 in Japanese Anime, but such a way of speaking is regarded as a “wacky” talk.
