Wrong accent on もう. Put it on the first letter も, not on う. Try Google Translate instead. GT reads it out properly.

I would have translated the Japanese as “I wasn’t afraid anymore”.

You are correct.

私はもう怖くありませんでした。= I WASN’T afraid any more.

私はもう怖くありません。= I AM NOT afraid any more.
