English Translation
This will be a good opportunity for me to use my language skills to my advantage.
Understandable but robotic and wordy unnatural translation… My alternative translation is:
私の語学力を活かせる機会となるだろう。(pron. わたしのごがくりょくをいかせるきかい)
- First, we don’t say 語学の能力. 語学力 is a frequent term.
- Second, 有利に使える and 好機 are very redundant. 好機 is a compound word for 良い (good) + 機会 (opportunity). 好機 itself means that the opportunity will be favorable for the speaker’s benefits.
- Third, 有利に使う in this particular context implies that the speaker is so manipulative that they want to take advantage by sacrificing others’ benefits. We don’t say 有利に使う when it comes to language skills.
Please note that 能力/スキルを活かす is more common than 生かす although they are homophones and even native speakers easily get confused. For more information about the difference between 活かす and 生かす, read this article by 実用日本語表現辞典 (Dictionary for practical usages in Japanese).
