今好きな人いる?

English Translation

Do you fancy anyone at the moment?

The TTS puts the intonation in a very awkward way… I copied and pasted the whole sentence to Google Translate TTS. But GT is also wrong…
Try this modified sentence: 今**、**好きな人いる? on GT. Inserting 読点(、)makes the intonation much better although the last syllable still doesn’t sound like a question sentence.

Here is another interesting question related to this sentence that you may want to further read.

Question: I’m confused on when to use “い”
The OP on Reddit was confused about いる in the following two sentences:

  • ペットはいません (I have no pets)
  • 学校にいます (I’m at school)

The verbs in English are “have” and “am”. They are totally different. But we, native Japanese speakers, regard them the same. いる in the lesson sentence 今、好きな人いる?functions as the same pattern as ペットはいません. For more details, you can find my explanation on Reddit.
