I believe that φλύαρη has more of a connotation of ‘chatterer, jabbermouth, someone who talks on and on without saying much’. For ‘a gossip’ I think the word κουτσομπόλης, κουτσομπόλα would be more common. Again, without a native speaker’s opinion, I cannot be sure.
