He did the work in spite of many obstacles.
Understandable but robotic unnatural translation, especially “in spite of” part… My alternative translations are:
- 障害は多かったものの、彼はその仕事を手掛けた。
- 多くの障害に見舞われつつも、彼はその仕事を行った。
The first sentence means he knew that there were many obstacles before starting the work.
The second sentence means he probably didn’t expect but he faced many obstacles while doing the word, but he never gave it up.
