Is it やめた or とめた? やめた right? Cause the voice says it different.

やめた is the only correct pronunciation in this context.

  • やめた = to quit or give up
  • とめた = to prevent an event or someone’s action

“The police officer stopped the car” is 警察官が車を止めた (とめた). The police officer didn’t quit the job or his bad smoking habit. So, you cannot pronounce it やめた in this sentence.
