just to to confirm, the pronunciation for 大勢 is たいせい, right? the pronunciation says おおせい, but the annotation says the former.

Both おおせい (oo - sei) and たいせい (tai - sei) are incorrect. It should be おおぜい (oo - zei) when it means “many people”.
たいせい for 大勢 means “a major part”, “a big trend” or “a high-level projection”. For example, この試合の大勢は決まった (このしあいのたいせいはきまった) means “we are almost certain at this moment which team will win this game”.
