English Translation
Beaches in Hawaii are famous for their large waves.
The Japanese-English pair doesn’t match. 特大の means “super large/big”.
If I translate from the English sentence to Japanese, it would be:
ハワイのビーチは高波で知られている。(たかなみでしられている)
We use both 高波(たかなみ = high wave)and 大波 interchangeably when it means a wave of ocean. We don’t say 高波, however, in a metaphoric way (e.g. 大波のような拍手が会場から沸き起った。= The huge applause like a big wave was from the theater).
