当市には橋が多い。

There are many bridges in this city.

Is 当市 a typo? I think it should be 都市.

当市 is a proper word so as 当社(とうしゃ = this/our company)and 当日(とうじつ = this day)are.
Here is an example:

A mayor is introducing his city to visitors. – “Yokohama City has 3+ million residents. And this city has many bridges. And it also has many roads.” = 横浜市には300万人以上の住民がいます。また、当市には橋が多いです。加えて、当市には道路もたくさんあります。

We don’t say この市 in a formal conversation. Also, repeating 横浜市 sounds very redundant. We say 当市 for the second or later times.

You can also say 当社には1000人の従業員がいます。また、当社は日本各地に10の支社があります。= Our company (this company) has 1000 employees. And we have 10 branch offices across Japan.

当 is mainly used when you are talking about your affiliated organization/community in a neutral way. Or, when an on-site news correspondent is reporting this city to the TV news anchor and the program viewers. 当 has the connotation of “our side”.
If you are explaining to your senior/respectful people, you need to replace 当 with 弊(へい)-- e.g. 弊市 and 弊社.
