Я сказала, вернись!

I thought “вернись” meant “come back!” (meaning "Return to your original location!) This is currently translated “Get back!” which in English does NOT mean to return to your original location, but rather, means that you are telling someone to move away from where they are currently standing, such as if they are in a spot where something dangerous is about to happen, such as a fire or explosion.

Am I missing something here? Can the Russian sentence have both meanings?

You’ll get more responses to your questions if you post them as comments on the original sentences at Tatoeba. It means you need to sign up for an account if you don’t have one already, but that’s free and doesn’t take long. I know that I get answers to my Russian questions from native speakers pretty quickly when I post them there.

I hadn’t thought of that, that’s a great suggestion, thanks much. I have an account there but am not currently logged on.
