- gregarious animals = 群生動物（ぐんせいどうぶつ）
- solitary animals = 単生動物（たんせいどうぶつ）

自分のテリトリーの境界を守る sounds like a robotic word-for-word translation. We usually say 縄張り（なわばり）for a territory seized by a strong power – 縄張り is used not only for animal lives but also for Yakuza (or mafia).
