The TTS audio puts the wrong accent on あまり. The accent should be on the first character あ when you mean “too ~ to ~”. If you put the accent on the second character ま, あまり means “not so much”.
口をきく is also spelled as 口を利く, not 口を聞く. 利く means “to be useful” or “to function”. So, 口を利く means either “to speak” or “to liaise someone to another in order to gaining benefits”. 空腹のあまり、口も利けなかった can be interpreted only as the former meaning (to speak).
