I feel like the translation is off. I wonder if “I didn’t let something like what he said be an issue for me.” might be a more literal translation. 問題にしない seems to be similar to 気にしない.

English Translation
I took no account of what he said.
The Japanese-English pair doesn’t match.
“To take no account” in English means “not think about, consider, or pay attention to someone/something”. The speaker ignored what he said. 気にも留めなかった (pron. きにもとめなかった) is a better translation for “to take no account of”.
On the other hand, 問題にしない in Japanese means “not to be bothered with it” or “not to further discuss on it”. Unlike 気にも留めない, the speaker is fully aware of what he said, and the speaker knows how to cope with it when the speaker says 問題にしない. In other words, 気にも留めない doesn’t accept what he said while 問題にしない means the speaker accepted it and then dealt with it.
