Is this correct, ‘yelled at’ → ‘skrek på’? ‘Skrek åt’ sounds more natural to me.

I might be wrong, but based on the third point of “Etymology 1”, I think that “skrek åt” would mean: Tom yelled in the general direction of where Mary was standing, and Mary just so happened to stand there. It would miss the point that Tom was angry with / aggressive towards Mary.

Skrika på, to my ears, has two different meanings:

  1. to yell at; you can also say “skrika åt”
  2. to yell for: “barnet skrek på sin mamma” (wanting its mother to come)
