Tom jest weteranem. (Question)

  • weteran mp.noun (aged) veteran. fem weteranka

Can someone help please? When someone refers to a veteran in English, the immediate thing that comes to mind is a military veteran. Is this similarly the case in Polish? If a Polish person heard ‘‘Tom jest weteranem’’ would their first thought be that Tom had served in the military? Thanks

Yes, it’s very similar to how it’s used in English – if a Polish person hears “Tom jest weteranem” out of context, they would assume it’s referring to a military veteran.

But then, of course, if you say that about a football player or a musician, it will be obvious that you’re referring to their experience in that field.
