Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil.
The Indonesian sentence means “tolerance could be a crime when taken advantage by an evil person”. But such a moral crime is committed by other people, not by the evil person himself. The English sentence doesn’t blame on the evil person, but on other people ignoring the tyranny of the evil person. Here are my alternative translations:
ENG: Tolerance can be a crime when abused by an evil person. (Note: the Indonesian sentence remains as it is.)
IDN: Toleransi dapat menjadi hal buruk jika dimanfaatkan untuk orang jahat.
“Oleh” is “(done) by (someone)” whereas “untuk” is “for the benefit of (someone)”.
