The “Explain” says that “ti” here is a direct object pronoun. I’m completely stumped by this. Isn’t “premio” the direct object? I can find examples on Reverso of tu meriti or ti meriti or tu ti meriti, What’s happening here with the “ti”? Is it analogous to eg “you deserve for yourself…”?

Hai ragione. “Ti” non è l’oggetto diretto di quella frase; quello è “il premio”. Il vocabolario di Treccani dice su “meritare”: “Molto frequente nel linguaggio fam. la forma con la particella pron. meritarsi , cioè meritare per sé: ti meriteresti uno scapaccione.”
I think that the shade of meaning in Italian is “well-deserved.”
