Ti meriti il premio.

English Translation

You deserve the prize.

The “Explain” says that “ti” here is a direct object pronoun. I’m completely stumped by this. Isn’t “premio” the direct object? I can find examples on Reverso of tu meriti or ti meriti or tu ti meriti, What’s happening here with the “ti”? Is it analogous to eg “you deserve for yourself…”?

Ehilà! I found this explanation “Tu ti meriti” is correct. Literally in this phrase the “ti” means “for yourself”. Another says: The verb is transitive. Il soggetto tu è normalmente sottinteso ma può essere espresso per enfasi - you really deserve …

Mille grazie for raising this.
