I think the translation should be ‘It’s a pity I do not know what’s going on’
I agree, your suggestion would work better as a literal translation—perhaps you could report it as “There’s an error in the translation(s)”. But still, the message is pretty much the same, so I wouldn’t consider it particularly harmful.
