Translated as “Stop picking on her.” Seems a better translation would be “Stop hitting on her” Perhaps the Italian should be: “Smettetela di prendervela con lei.”

I think that you are entirely correct here: you definitely need to convey the flirtatious nature of provarci con lei.

Slang - definitely the flirtatious form:-) ie Stop trying to get off with her, nothing to do with picking on her.
